Printed banners are a flexible way to promote an event, support a club, identify a temporary location or display a message at a business or construction site. A useful banner begins with the location and viewing distance—not with squeezing as much information as possible into the artwork.
Where will the banner be used?
Tell us whether the banner will be indoors or outdoors, how long it is expected to remain in place and how it will be secured. Outdoor exposure and wind affect the material, finishing and fixing approach.
PVC and mesh banners
PVC banner material provides a solid printed surface for many indoor and outdoor uses. Mesh allows more air to pass through and may be considered for larger or more exposed applications. Suitability still depends on the location, size and method of installation.
Choose a size for the viewing distance
A banner viewed from across a road or sports ground needs larger lettering than one beside a reception desk. Supply the available display dimensions and explain where the audience will stand or pass.
Keep the design readable
Use a clear headline, strong contrast and limited supporting information. Logos, event dates, phone numbers and sponsor details need enough space to remain legible. Fine text may be technically printable but ineffective at normal viewing distance.
Eyelets and finishing
Eyelets are commonly used to secure a banner, while other finishing options may suit particular displays. The banner must be supported correctly and checked regularly. Fixings and the supporting structure need to be appropriate for the location and conditions.
Artwork for banner printing
Large-format artwork should be prepared at the correct proportions with suitable image quality. A small image copied from a website will not necessarily remain sharp when enlarged. Send original logos and the best available photographs.
Event and sponsor banners
For club and event banners, gather all sponsor logos before the design begins. Confirm the exact event name, date, location and required logo order. Late additions can force the complete layout to be revised.
